Prisons are not for Profit!
The POA launched its “Prisons are not for Profit” campaign at the Tolpuddle Festival on 17th - 19th July 2009, in response to the Government’s announcement to extend prison privatisation and market testing.
The campaign aims to oppose the privatisation of public sector prisons and the return of private prisons to the public sector.
Colin Moses National Chairman of the POA said:
“The underhanded methods employed by the Government to further extend their prisons for profit culture must be challenged”.

“The POA and its members have fought against privatisation for many years. We cannot allow profit to be made from incarceration”.
The POA also organised the “Tolpuddle Freedom Hike” on Sunday 19th July 2009 from Dorchester Prison at 8.00am. The Hike traces along the route taken by the Tolpuddle Martyrs to Dorchester Prison in reverse.Click POA to be informed by members of the National Executive Committee and POA members who are at the sharp end of this culture of enforced privatisation.
